Scotland Trip 2012 - Scottish Highlands on Motorcycle

Holiday time and once again heading on a motorcycle road trip to the Lake District and Scotland Trip 2012 up to the Highlands.

Unlike last year when Rob and myself over the miles a little, this year we split the trip a bit more evenly so we can have a more relaxing trip. The first day was the boring one - straight up the M5/M6 to the Lake District where we stayed in the Travelodge at Kendal. Arriving late afternoon we had more than enough time to unpack and relax before heading into Kendal itself for some food and a pint.

On Sunday we had a leisurely ride around the Lakes back up to join up with the motorway at Penrith and arrived in Moffat early in the afternoon. After some unpacking and some lunch at the Buccleuch Arms Hotel  Rob and I headed off on the bikes to do the three lakes tour which demolished my rear tire! On our return, we had some excellent food and drink before heading off to bed for the night.

Monday morning we rose early for breakfast and set off for Fort William. Riding up towards Glencoe we stopped off at The Green Welly Stop and several other places before arriving late afternoon at the B&B. That night we went to The Grogg & Gruel  for some fantastic food (Wild Boar Chili!) and great ales and Whisky!

Tuesday we headed to Ullapool and the Argyll Hotel  where we will be staying for the next two nights. After unpacking and having a quick drink, the first thing we did was get Fish and chips before doing a little shopping and exploring the harbour.

Early Wednesday morning I woke to look out the window to see a lovely sunrise over Loch Broom. After breakfast, we took a short trip to see The Falls Of Mesach and then headed North to explore some of the Lochs and castles and spent some time looking around Ardvreck Castle and Loch Assynt. Returning to Ullapool for some more Fish and chips and exploration, we found a few seals playing in Loch Broom.

Thursday we headed back to Fort William stopping off at Loch Ness - like last year still no sign of Nessie. We also stopped off at the Commando Monument at Spean Bridge.

By Friday we were back in Moffat, shopping, eating and drinking before heading directly home on Saturday.
