Loawnu the Wise Woman

Once upon a time, a long time ago... On a warm spring day, in Xia times, some children went out in the fields to play.

The youngsters hurried up the hill to Loawnu's house, terrified by what they saw in the fields. If you had a problem back then, you went to consult the local wise woman. Loawnu was the name of the wise woman in this village.

"Loawnu!" they yelled. "The sky is falling!"

Loawnu gave the children a friendly grin. "Don't be concerned. Find all of the fallen pieces of the sky and bring them to me. I'll patch them back together in time for the festival."

The spring celebration was quickly approaching. This was a period when young people from many communities gathered to meet one another and find husbands and marriages. This year, the children's village was designated as the meeting village. It would be a terrible time if the sky fell. The village would be embarrassed!

The kids dashed out to pick up the pieces. Yet, some were missing! "Loawnu!" exclaimed the youngsters as they raced up the hill to tell her. Loawnu could only smile.

The children ran outside the next day and gazed skyward. The sky was as clear, fresh, and blue as it often was on a bright spring day. They were overjoyed.

They were astounded that night! The night sky had always been dark. It was full of brightness that night! Loawnu had filled in the gaps in the sky with beautiful flashing lights! What a lovely sight! How ingenious! We're going to have the best spring carnival in the world! How fortunate we are to know Loawnu!

The entire village agreed.
