Astronomy is one of the oldest natural sciences and deals with the study of celestial objects (such as moons, planets, stars, nebulae, and galaxies); the physics, chemistry, mathematics, and evolution of such objects; and phenomena that originate outside the atmosphere of Earth (such as supernovae explosions, gamma ray bursts, and cosmic background radiation).

Sunspot AR953
28/04/2007My Observation Logs
A new sunspot has developed on the surface of the Sun. Designated AR953, this sunspot is approximately three times the size of our little planet.
Experimental Astrophotography
27/04/2007My Observation Logs
I did a little experiment the other night with a new imaging setup. Since I was involved in a car accident last year it has been difficult for me to take my telescope out and setup as I can only hold around 3kg in my left hand.

At 8:18pm the Earth passed between the Sun and the Moon creating the first Total Lunar Eclipse for three years and surprisingly the skies stayed perfectly clear!
First Time For Months!
02/11/2006My Observation Logs
This was my first time out under the stars for months! Every night has had total cloud cover which is not good for Astronomy.
Too much Light Pollution
10/06/2006My Observation Logs
I started off photographing the Moon, experimenting with the mirror lockup feature on the camera which lifts the mirror and lets the vibrations dampen off before taking the picture.
Clear skies and a New Camera
30/05/2006My Observation Logs
Tonight I had the first clear night since I have been able to walk, so didn't waste any time volunteering my father to help carry the equipment to the top of the garden!
Bit Chilly Tonight!
27/01/2006My Observation Logs
It was a bit chilly tonight (-2°C) but that did not stop me because the sky was very clear for a change (interrupted by the odd cloud).
A Perfect Moonless Sky
22/01/2006My Observation Logs
Clear skies again, this time without the moon. Amazing what a difference a moonless sky makes to viewing conditions.
A Late Night Viewing Session
14/01/2006My Observation Logs
Clear skies again last night, but they didn't clear until 21:30.
First Clear Skies with New Skywatcher Telescope
12/01/2006My Observation Logs
I can finally use my new Skywatcher telescope that I had for Christmas, as tonight I finally had clear skies! I have the Explorer 200 model which is a 200mm newtonian reflector.
